Islam Cooperation Association and Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry held a emergency aid meeting in Istanbul
Islam Cooperation Association General Secretary Prof. Ekmelettin Ä°HSANOÄžLU who made a speech in the meeting gave information about that subject and what they would do in the future. Our goal is to reach 3 million people trying to survive in spite of hunger said Ä°hsanoÄŸlu and continued: “It seems that some political movements are against the aid of UN. IIT could enter where UN (United Nations) cannot enter. However this association could not handle this disaster all alone”. The journalists asked if they had any projects to recover the damages of Africa and Ä°hsanoÄŸlu answered: “Unless the war ends there sustainable development does not seem possible. Politically we have been active in Somali contact group yet the famine issue is a humanitarian disaster level. First of all we have to finish that famine problem. Political solution takes long time unfortunately”. IhsanoÄŸlu also criticized the Islam phobia came to the topic after the attacks in Norway and said: “we publish a report each year about Islam phobia. We had an important meeting with M. Clinton 10 days ago. We have spoken about these subjects. Our organization has given a lot of importance to this issue. The first problem I had to face was the rude and disrespectful caricatures in Denmark. I believe that we are in a new page of hate against Islam. Western countries have to be in cooperation with Eastern countries to be able finish this hate. The incident in Norway shows this. Racism and hostility against Muslims is a very dangerous point. A racist, an Islam enemy could kill the people from his own nation which do not agree with him. This is not a surprise for us; we have already said that Islam phobia should be a topic in a political way. In some Middle European countries Islam phobia has become a political bounty. Islam phobia is like the anti Semitism in 1930 in Europe. We have to solve this in cooperation.
The participants of the meeting especially tried find solutions to the questions regarding how to deliver aid to the people in need in Somali Djibouti and Kenya; how and from where the aid will be delivered to these regions. Istanbul Foreign Affairs Responsible Åžerafettin MOLLAOÄžLU has participated to meeting to represent Cansuyu organization. He made a speech and said: “It is necessary to hold a meeting with the assistance organization in Islam countries in the leadership of Islam Cooperation Organization to be able to deliver the assistance urgently to the areas hit by wars, earthquakes or any emergency cases. A team should be created to determine the required materials in the regions and the required materials will not be sent late with the support of the commission and so everyone in need will be able to receive thanks to early determination of the situation. If we can deliver the aid in an organized way, people in need could use it. Otherwise some regions receive helps many times while others do not take any. The reason of that is the assistance organization via partner organization of the country in question which distribute to the same area. Thus other areas in need get nothing. As we see in Somali now, the assistance groups are in big difficulty to deliver aid to the region. Islam Cooperation Organization should take action and provide security to the assistance organization in question which is quite necessary”.
MollaoÄŸlu said that Cansuyu started activities in the region and invited everyone to be sensitive about Eastern Africa.
