CANSUYU volunteers are in Ethiopia which is border neighbor of Somali and one the poorest country of Africa. Our team arrived to OGADEN region where people started to refuge because of the drought and famine in Somali and organized a dinner program in one of the biggest mosques of Harar city which is the sister city of Şanlıurfa that has been the capital of Islam societies and welcome Ottoman oeuvres. Later, they have organized another dinner program in an orphanage that has been constructed by Muslim people of Jigiga which is one of the most important cities of the country and let the orphans have a dinner.

CANSUYU team has nominally planned its activities based on basic food materials, met the food requirements of 1500 families living in Hart Sheikh Refugee camp where almost 5000 families reside. These families sheltered there from Hargeysa and Gabeley regions of Somali.  Hart Sheikh Camp that was created by a few families as a result of the drought in the year 2000 has grown quickly because of the political unsteadiness in the regions and shortage of drug of the country and it has 30.000 populations. There are several diseases especially diarrhea caused by the shortage of clean water. Particularly the children have various health issues arisen from the insufficient nutrition. CANSUYU team is planning to solve the clean water problem of the region.

Our team passed from Hart Sheikh Camp to the Gode region which is in the southern part of the country and which was severely hit by drought. Drug aid has been delivered to his region too. Packs which are full of provision for one month sufficient for 3000 families have been delivered to needers in Adelrde and Birkes as well as other villages of Gode region. Besides, 100 ovine taken from Turkey have been cut and distributed to the region. Our team has reached almost 5000 families in urgent needs, performed its activities in this region called Gode where there was no telephone, internet and most importantly clean water and which could have electricity in certain hours of the day and passed to the Somali border.

After long and hard travel in urban areas our team reached to the border and reached Elber town in Somali by taking the required permissions. There were almost 2000 people who have come here by walking during 3-5 days or ıne week with the ideas in their head” May be we can have some donations too” . They have come all that way from the central parts of Somali. Their clothes were barely visible and they had notning but a few containers of water which was difficult to explain with words. CANSUYU made its research in the camps without a legal status and decided to bring assistance urgently to that region. CANSUYU team returned to capital Addis Ababa to be able to receive required permissions and to organize the assistance. However they had some bureaucratic obstacles. First of all Ethiopian authorizers who were not willing to pass to the Somali part of the border have been persuaded after long efforts and CANSUYU teams has started its works to be able to deliver the basic food materials to that poor region. Our team was planning to reach approximately 2200 families in Elberde region before the festival, is still continuing the food distribution in the border and in the meantime performing its studies to meet the water need of the region.

CANSUYU Ethiopia team has distributed following items during Ramadan

160 ton dry foods

22000 liters oil

130 ton date

100 ovine donated have been cut and distributed to the needers.

CANSUYU team completed its activities until the Arafa day also finished the planning and pre preparations of water wells to be opened in the following months. Cansuyu will continue bringing the donations of benefactors to the needers even after the festival.
